Application of BeiDou Short Message in Global Maritime Distress and Safety Communication Service

In order to provide maritime distress and safety service by using BeiDou short message, The authority of BeiDou Message Service System (BDMSS) is negotiating with IMO (International Maritime Organization) for joining its Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) after adaptive revamp of the system and supporting construction. The overall structure of BDMSS is described. The progress of international evaluation is described. The application mode of BDMSS is analyzed. The application of BeiDou global short message in China ocean going shipping industry is expounded. The prospect and direction of BDMSS is analyzed.
